History & Today
The Takapuna Beach Business Association has a long history, having originally been incorporated as the Takapuna Businessmen’s Association in 1948. It was renamed the Takapuna Business Association in 1979 to better reflect its members, and in 2003 was renamed Takapuna Beach Business Association to better identify what made the area special and different from other business areas.
The Takapuna Beach Business Association is an incorporated society funded by commercial ratepayers in the Takapuna Beach Business District. The Association’s role is to represent the marketing, promotional and advocacy needs of members.

Mission
To ensure Takapuna Beach becomes the preferred location in the Auckland region in which to live, work and play. To be the most innovative, professional and dynamic business improvement district (BID) in New Zealand, whilst exceeding the needs and expectations of the community and stakeholders.
Action Plan for 2009/2010
- Work with Landlords and Council to develop a retail strategy for Takapuna
- Build on Takapuna Beach as the events capital of the North Shore
- Work with Takapuna 2020 to develop a vision for Takapuna
- Best position Takapuna Beach to be recongnised by the super city as a strategic and important town centre worthy of prioritising projects
- Compile full list of TBBA members and prioritise electronic comminication however, post, fax and hand deliver to those who cannot receive electronically
- Build on the successes of the Christmas Carnival and Fashion Month
- To assist existing retail and attract new by marketing Takapuna Beach through a variety of media (North Shore Times double-page spreads, radio advertising, cluster brochures, regular news articles and the like).
